Where Have You Been is a collection of 16 ballads. It was recorded by musicians from various other bands and projects, including members of the Strange Encounters, Alba Griot, the Emigrants, Band of Jakeys, Two Dollar Bash, Rodeo Queen, the Klezmer Institute and the Geneva Irish Music Session, working in various combinations under the name The Vengeful Cousins. Each track on this recording are some of our favorite songs which tell a story, the heart of the great ballad tradition. Some of these are songs we have played for decades, others learned newly for this project. Many are tributes to some of our favorite songs and songwriters. We hope you love this record, and we hope you will send us your suggestions for the next chapter: claudecahn.net/music.

about

This is a record of ballads. It was made with some friends in various parts of Europe, in a cave in the attic of the building where I live, and in various other warrens and grottos around the continent. Some tracks were also recorded in Hamden, USA, in the Great State of Connecticut.

about

Claude Cahn

I came of age in college radio. I played in bands. I played on the street. I wrote out the melodies I heard from inside. In the early 2000s, the music stopped playing in my head. Trad rescued me and brought it all back. Now I play where the spirit takes me, and on a good night, I can bring it all together: for love, for communing with other people, for shaking loose the demon in these MP3 times. ... more
